Finally connected, substantially faster

Yay! I've finally got Broadband Internet.

Now I can download loads of really big things like... ummm...

So OK I can't think of any reason why I needed it. But the point is, at last, I've finally got it. (Afterall, isn't that the way with all desires for things material?)

I can finally say goodbye to my 56k modem -- or at least bid it adieu, for the moment. ;)

Out of touch, but alive

Oops! Forgot all about my blogs, didn't I?!

Well... no. Just I've been doing other things!

Of course I'm still working hard on The Movies and it is going very well indeed. Recently we gave a showfloor demo of the game at E3 -- a massive entertainment software expo -- and it went down very well indeed. So yes, I'm very pleased.

Otherwise, been out to a few parties, Nigel's been over for quite a few weekends and we've been playing Civilization 3 together, I've recently got lost in a new online game called City of Heroes, and well, everything's just rolling along smoothly, I guess!

I finally got around to watching LOTR: Return of the King after buying it on DVD. Yes -- I really hadn't watched it! It wasn't that I didn't want to, just... I didn't get around to it, and didn't make a special effort. So... I just waited till it came out on DVD. But I've got to tell you, I loved it. :)

I'm not sure if I'm still in touch with any friends I met years and years ago on the online game, The Realm -- but for any of you still out there reading this -- come and join me in City of Heroes. You get to play a Superhero! ;) I'm playing mostly as a female "Technology Blaster" character called Tryx, on the Pinnacle server. I've joined other people from work who are playing, and we've formed a guild-like "Supergroup" called, funnily enough, Lionhead. So if you see any of us in there, say Hello!

I'm loving the game so much, it's even making me consider drastic measures to enable me to get broadband set up! Playing the game over a 56k modem is pure hell. But it plays like a dream from work, through the fast web connection there. To put a long story short, my monitor has just died, my hard drives aren't always detected by the computer, the computer doesn't always shut down properly, and well... Ash has a potential brand new 3ghz computer gleaming in his eyes. I can afford it now I'm well above zero again, but I've been putting money aside for a long-planned return holiday to New Zealand at some stage this year.

Thing is, I could probably do both at a pinch so it's making me even more likely to just go ahead and buy the new computer. Yes yes I know I can upgrade. But there's a lot of good reasons why I should just get a decent basic system (pre-customised by me, of course!) I'd get my replacement monitor, better hard drives, a DVD rom drive which I don't have, and an OEM full verson of XP without having to fork out £200 for it. I've got Windows 98 and though it does me fine mostly, after using XP at work for over a year (YES I'VE BEEN WORKING AT LIONHEAD OVER A YEAR NOW - YIPPEE!!!) I've just fallen in love with XP instead.

So it looks like I'm just going to ahead and order it, probably this weekend. Sorry to go on about what I'm going to buy, I don't like what might come across as showing off, but hey -- this is my liddle nook on the web, after all! ;)

Anyhow... This weekend I'm planning to stay home alone, which will mean I'll actually get a chance to clean my room and other parts of the house. As I am sure you can imagine I'm looking forward to this. So I've brought home my work computer's monitor to ensure I'll be able to play City of Heroes all weekend, just in case I'm unable to find a spare moment for the cleaning. ;)

Also hoping to catch a few rays of Sun! I was out for ages, two weekends ago, and I got a rather nice shade darker than my usual shade of pale. For once I didn't look like I'd been sitting in front of a computer literally for the last fifteen years. Ummm...

Well, that's about it for now. I'm off to go listen to more Moloko -- yep, I've really got into them recently.

Cheerio!
