Just a quick note, for now. The news is... I'm back safe in Cambridge now, after enjoying my brief time in Scotland. You know, I think I may well be the first person from the Scottish side of my ancestry to return to Scotland since they left to live in New Zealand, generations ago. I felt welcomed -- and it was reminiscent of how I felt when I first arrived in Cambridge, almost four years ago now. So what does that mean? Ahh well, as I like to say, "Time will tell."

Hey! I'm just getting ready to leave the house -- I've got to be at London City airport for a 4:50pm flight. I'm off up to Scotland for an interview. Didn't get half as much sleep as I needed to, but luckily the interview isn't until tomorrow morning. But I'm more concerned about missing today's flight! Please wish me luck, and if you hear about a ScotAirways flight crashing on route to Scotland, start worrying. Back Tuesday evening.

Just had to do some quick tests -- for some reason, posts from here weren't being sent to my Yahoo! group after changes I made yesterday. Well, I tried renaming to "wizard reflected" and the post went through OK, then I changed to "frimlin : wizard reflected" and that worked too -- so I finally changed back to "frimlin : wizard, reflected" and now that's working fine. So apparently, there was no discernible logic behind the fault! But renaming the blog a few times seemed to fix it. Bizarre! Now why am I thinking *this* post is going to jinx it?!

If you're at all interested in Creatures, please note that I've updated my Yahoo! group with various Creatures-related images I've found on my hard drive. They're in no particular order, and are without any description. But I'm sure some of you will find at least a few of them interesting. Included are a couple of images of the "Tree Norns" I once started creating for Creatures 2. They were meant as a C2 equivalent of the much loved "Wood Norns" I had created earlier. There's also three images I once had up on my old Creatures site, "Frimlin's Kiwi Creatures." They're not quite poems, and not quite artistic images -- but they're interesting all the same, and Creatures related. Maybe I'll make a new one sometime.
I want people to know -- I do intend on making a new Creatures site one day. It won't be anything very updated -- but it'll at least contain some of the old stuff I used to have on my old Creatures site before I started working at Creature Labs in 1999, all wrapped up in a contemporary design of course! I haven't played a Creatures game in a long time now, though. In my mind I find it hard to separate a lot of non-positive feelings from the whole issue of Creatures, so I find myself having to put it out of my mind rather than ponder it like I do with most things. But hey, I'll never say never.

Yup. I've renamed this place. I mean "frimlin blog"!? *cough* Let's just quietly forget that "inspired title" and focus on something positive -- like... hasn't it been so very lovely and warm recently in the UK? I've got to say, I'm very glad I'm not unemployed in Winter. It's been pleasant being able to sit in the sun filling out forms, rather than in the dark inside. There, made you forget -- just for a moment, mind. But still, in time I see you'll catch on with the new title and carry on as though nothing had ever changed...

Hello! I've just come back from another interview. This time I was in Guildford, a town just to the South-West of London. Lovely place too -- and I quite liked what I saw of the company as well. Apparently I'll hear back from them quite soon -- ominous! Could be good, could be bad. I've got an interview next week with another company, and I've still yet to hear from the one I went to last week. All very costly getting to and from the interviews, but of course the idea is that money soon won't be the massive problem it is now.
So please, keep your fingers crossed for me. And if you know of any job I could do, in the UK preferably, then please don't hesitate to let me know. Hey, you can't blame me for asking!

3,998,008 and counting... apparently the population of New Zealand rises by one every six minutes and forty-eight seconds.- one birth every 9 minutes and 34 seconds
- one death every 20 minutes and 46 seconds
- a net migration gain of one New Zealand resident every 11 minutes and 1 seconds.
If current growth patterns continue, the four million population mark will be reached within the next few weeks.
Thanks to leto for the link.

So why don't I update this blog more often? Actually, I've seen blogs recently that haven't been updated for months and months. So even now this place is updated a whole lot more than many other places. This isn't the kind of blog people post quick links and a few funny comments to, this is more like an online diary, and so it can take a bit of effort to put fingers to keyboard sometimes. My life isn't a long string of quirky online dross, that everyone just has to click on. It has seemed like it at times. But it isn't really. I'm far too verbose to ever be restricted to running a blog just like everyone else.
I updated a couple of things on here recently -- one thing being the list of sub-sites. No longer is frimlin blog at the top of the list -- I don't want it to be the gateway straight into private Ash. So instead it's now at the bottom of the list, and so should get a lot less publicity. But even then I'm not completely happy. I'm not completely sure I want everyone to know my daily business, as and when it happens. Even friends and family don't need -- or want -- to know everything that happens to me.
So yeah, this interview thing. I can't say much about it because of a number of reasons -- but I'll spill all the beans if I get the job. It's not in London like I'm hoping for, but it does look good and it isn't brilliantly far away either. If it doesn't happen, then sometime next week or so I'll be moving all my stuff out of my place and down to London to Nigel's. At least then I can be in London, so it'll be easier to find a job there.
Mum visited me last Thursday. She arrived midday Thursday and stayed on till just before six on Friday evening. Was really good to see her, too. And she's got a car now -- I think it's a Mitsubishi Lancer. Seems quite nice, and obviously does what it's told well enough to get her from Leicestershire to Cambridge. She helped me sort out all the old clothes I've kept in bags under my bed. Took out quite a lot, too. But there was still quite a bit of stuff I couldn't bear to part with, despite the fact that I've been without it for possibly two years plus already! Definitely good to clear it all out. And now I've got a spare suitcase to stick stuff in, when I'm moving.
The weather here is deceptively sunny. It looks so very warm, but when you actually sit in the sun you realise it's still quite cold. There's a nasty cool breeze around too. But hey, I was out with just a thin t-shirt the other day. Goosebump-covered, but in the sun! Literally shivering on and off for about half an hour, but in the sun!
The other day I crumbled up some cornflakes, mixed in some old sultanas and mixed nuts, and threw them outside in a pile for the birds to peck at. It may seem immensely sad, but I quite like watching the local birds pecking away happily. Our backyard is visited by a range of them -- Robins, Sparrows, Blackbirds, Starlings, tiny little Wrens, Pigeons, Crows -- and some other little birds I'm not brilliantly familiar with. Sometimes a grey squirrel comes along, but that's not very often.
Friday night last week, I went out and walked into town with Angela. We met up with Virginie at the Pickerel, and were soon greeted by Dave too. It was definitely a good move to get out and about. The girls went up and got an Indian takeaway, and I went and joined them at Virginie's place -- which is right up in the centre of Cambridge, next to a park area called Jesus Green. We watched the film Amelie, which was quite good but I wasn't brilliantly moved or anything. It was lovely to spend time with Angela and Virginie though.
The weekend was uneventful, and worth mentioning only in passing. This Wednesday I'll be heading down to stay with Nigel for a few nights. Will make it easier to go to the interview if I'm down there, as I had to pass through London anyhow.
Well hey, that's about it for now. There really isn't all that much to say. I know I must sound despondent, and I am in some ways -- but in other ways I'm happy and still remaining positive about things. Hey if this Thursday doesn't work out, then at least soon I'll be in London and in a much better position to find something there.
