Hello there!
It's my last day at Creature Labs today. Needless to say, I'm in a very reflective mood.
My Mum has been staying in Cambridge this week, and has been very helpfully sorting out a lot of the mess I have dutifully kept out of order at home. I am now in a better position to move, should the need arise.
Unfortunately I never did get around to posting the final chapter of the Docking Station Story but I will be recompiling the entire story and putting it up here on my site for all to see. There were a lot of lose ends at Creature Labs I was unable to tie up in time -- I had been working on a new fast-loading design for the Creatures Network sites. But sadly this wasn't able to be completed and tested before the end of February.
I completely forgot to mention my birthday on Tuesday. I managed to move over from 25 to 26 without all that much of an effort. Went out drinking at the Pickerel after work and lots of friends dropped in and bought me drinks. I have never tried drinking a shot of sambucca before, well not one that was SET ON FIRE!! Yes, and I have the singed nose hairs to prove it. Somehow managed to swim back to my bed, where I feel into a sound sleep during the beginning of a Star Trek Voyager episode. But don't think I don't love you, Kathryn Janeway.
Well anyhow, time to go and do a little bit more end-tieing -- the day isn't quite over yet. The fat lady has not sung. The show ain't over till it's over.
That's all for now folks!

Whoa it's been a while, hasn't it? Let's just say that if I had any good news, I would have shared it already.
About the only interesting thing happening for me right now, is that next week I have two rather big days ahead of me. The first one is Friday, or perhaps earlier in the week, when I have my last day at Creature Labs. I'm not sure how that day will turn out exactly, but I am sure I'll be taking a few long hard looks around the place. I've already taken my personal effects home, actually I packed them before I even knew for sure I was going.
It was a bit odd to be standing in the centre of the Creature Labs office, packing away the cute stuffed toy Norns and Grendels I've accumulated from fellow Creatures fans. As I looked around the office, there were no other Norns to be seen. But it's been steadily more and more like that over the last couple of years -- I should have been used to it. But the moment spoke to me, all the same.
The birthday thing is cool, but it's a shame it's coincided with my last day. I have only vague plans at the moment, but the main deal will be drinks at my favourite pub, the Pickerel Inn, on Tuesday evening. It's going to be a good opportunity to catch up with some of the local friends that I've lost contact with recently. So that will be cool. After that, I don't know what will happen -- but we might go out and eat somewhere, or crash back to my place for kebabs or an Indian meal delivery. Whatever happens, I intend to have loads of fun, irrespective of the bold red ink on my bank statement!
I've been having urges to write, but so far, nothing strong enough to actually motivate me into doing any yet. But my thoughts have been along the lines of an idea for a short Sci-Fi film I had once. The storyline was less specific, but the main character was a blonde female rockstar who's popularity starts to be eroded by the pop success of her very own clone. You'll have probably expired before I actually get around to writing it, so don't hold your breath as that will only quicken your final fated event.
What else... Oh. My Mum's coming down to stay in Cambridge all of next week. It'll be nice to have her around. She's determined to clear out a lot of the stuff I've been squirreling away under my bed -- mostly just bags of clothing I'd now never wear. So hey, that's absolutely fine with me! I don't mind if someone wants to help me clean up -- you should see the state of my room right now... actually, no, you shouldn't.
So why do I never rant on my blog like everyone else does on theirs? Well the main reason is that I'm never quite that vexed that I need to do anything like that. I generally have a very reasonable attitude about most things, and so it's a rare moment when I get reved up enough to feel like I need to vent my anger. I doubt whether my relatively balanced and inoffensive take on most issues is going to be of any interest to the world. People generally like extremes of opinion, because they're usually the most provocative. Well damn, huh?
Do you know what? I'm probably the slimmest and fittest I've been since I was 9. I put on a pair of tight jeans today -- but they weren't tight at all. They used to be but now they aren't. And I think all my tummy crunches are starting to pay off -- I can't help but think I'm seeing a bit of definition in said stomach area. Fantastic. Now if only I could get rid of that lower back padding. Bah!
Hey, I'm really sorry, but I just can't think of an apt way to finish this post. Bye!

Hello from Leicestershire! I'm at my Aunt & Uncle's place in Belton, which is a sweet little village near Loughborough. My Mum is watching over my shoulder as I type this blog entry. I'm trying to show her that it's really easy to do -- maybe I can encourage her to make one too! ;-)
Okay so I wasn't supposed to be here -- but I met Mum at Heathrow yesterday, and didn't want to just say goodbye and leave her to go off up North on her own. But I'm heading back to Heathrow this afternoon, where I'll then make my way to Nigel's place.

Okay, so I updated my blog design a little bit! Shall we place bets on how long it stays like this?
Ahh well, I'm feeling a lot more tired now -- I might actually be able to catch some sleep before that awful early coach.

How to say "Oh my god! There's an axe in my head," in loads of different languages -- worth a quick look! Thanks to TreeSprite for the link.
I have to get on a coach to Heathrow at 3:10am tomorrow. As you can imagine, I'm well chuffed about that. I don't think I'll get any sleep between now and then, but I'll try! The only good part of it is, when I get there I'll see my Mum! :-) But only for about four hours or so. Then she'll be taking a coach to East Midlands Airport to meet up with Stella and Bill, my Aunt and Uncle. The plan is, after she gets on the coach, I'll head over to fall into a deep sleep at Nigel's place in the afternoon. I'll be spending the weekend in London, so this means I'll be quiet on here until I get back. Bah. And I was doing so good updating frimlinks so regularly. Hmm I seem to have forgotten the concept of Internet Cafes.. but am I really that much of a blogging addict?
There is now a plan for frimlin.com. I'm going to reorganise things substantially, in an attempt to make my whole site a lot more intuitive and easy to navigate. But it's going to have to wait a few days now. Darn. Blogging has become like my latest craze. I go through phases of intense fanaticism about things, most usually PC games. My most recent one was Civilization 3, which I played for months and months -- whenever I could find, or make, the time. Then I suddenly just got out of it. Just like that. And now blogging is consuming my time with vigour -- it shows all the signs. It's seems that yes indeed, I really am that much of a blogging addict.

I'm sorry, Swedish stamp resources. I didn't mean to steal your name. Honest.
Until just yesterday, the only mention of frimlinks was the filename of this Swedish links page. Out of a combination of neurotic fascination and sheer boredom, I've started watching mentions of my new "links page" as they appear in Google.com. Sad.

I've just adjusted my blog settings for my links & news blog, frimlinks. Every time I update it, it'll send an email to the frimlin blog Yahoo group. If you're a member, and you disapprove, just say. I won't necessarily listen to you though. I'm hard like that.
Since I started work on the design for frimlinks on Saturday, I've started to get massive itchings to update the design of frimlin blog again... and perhaps renaming it... and maybe stressing that it's more of a personal blog... and that perhaps I shouldn't tout it around publically at all. I'm really getting an urge towards keeping public frimlin and private frimlin separate. I only ever intended frimlin blog to be my best effort to make up to friends and family that missed out in hearing from me because I'm so damned uncommunicative. It just kinda awkwardly evolved from that, and it's author's laid back "let it just become" approach.
All this designing, blogging and posting of old poetry and stories has really inspired me into a creative mood. It's such bad timing too, because I should be rushing around the place frantically searching for a new job. I've applied for a few, and am continuing to look around -- finding new ones daily. So I'm trying to strike a balance between job hunting, expressing my current state of inspiration, and indeed, tying up the ends of my tenure at Creature Labs. It isn't easy.
I love walking into work and back. I hate getting sweaty for it, though. But I'm going to miss walking around Cambridge. I will miss walking briskly down Mill Road in the mornings, it's such a lively place -- always something happening. If I came back here, I'd definitely like to live around here again. I will miss arriving just up at the start of Parker's Piece and looking over it, towards the city. It always provides excellent views, which vary dramatically throughout the year, irrespective of the fact that it somehow still always seems mostly grey.
I'll miss following my tried and trusted path. Of course, there'll be new paths and new places I like. But in all change there is a good side and bad. A mourning of what's lost, and a celebrating of what's new. I'm feeling buffeted by extreme emotions, but it's like being inside the eye of a tornado. Beyond a certain distance, events are chaotic and important. Inside the eye, things are calm and more chilled, even eager.
Ahh well, don't hold your breath about the design updates for frimlin blog. I'm not in the habit of making promises. No. Nope. I won't do it.

Update from The Democratic States of Frimlin @ NationStates
The Democratic States of Frimlin
"Life is great, on the fence." | UN Category: Inoffensive Centrist Democracy | | Civil Rights: Very Good | Economy: Weak | Political Freedoms: Good |
The Democratic States of Frimlin is a very large, safe nation, remarkable for its burgeoning giant rabbit population. Its compassionate population of 113 million have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often. The enormous government is mainly concerned with Education, although Religion & Spirituality and Social Equality are secondary priorities. The average income tax rate is 31%, but much higher for the wealthy. A small but healthy private sector is dominated by the Book Publishing industry. The latest Harry Potter book is a bestseller, military funding has been stripped back, the tenet of free speech is held dear, and citizens select which government department gets their income tax dollars each year. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to a well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Frimlin's national animal is the giant rabbit, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the diamond.
