The River Sings

Here is my interpretation of the lyrics of the Enya song, "The River Sings". The song is written in an imaginary language called Loxian. As far as I am aware, there are no offical written down lyrics known on the Internet. Well, two years ago or so, I spent a while trying to figure out the lyrics and write them down in a way that an English person would be able to easily follow. For ages they've sat on my hard drive without being known by anyone but me. So I finally decided I should release them to our friend the Internet. Enjoy. :)

You did so extremely well, even I can't find a word to describe your excellence! You have the uncommon intelligence necessary to understand things that most people don't. You have an extensive vocabulary, and you're not afraid to use it properly! Way to go!

Thank you so much for taking my test. I hope you enjoyed it!

What Greek God am I?

Your Score: Aphrodite

Gods! You scored 55!

You are most like the Goddess Aphrodite! Aphrodite is the goddess of love, beauty, fertility and desire. Although she was married she had many affairs with both other gods and men - most famously with Ares. Her husband Hephaestus caught them in a net he had made and paraded them in front of the other gods. Aphrodite is mean, vain and jealous, and most often depicted with a mirror.

The Lover Style

Your Score: The Romantic Lover

68% partner focus, 61% aggressiveness, 30% adventurousness

Based on the results of this test, it is highly likely that:

You prefer your romance and love to be traditional rather than daring or out-of-the-ordinary, you would rather pursue than be pursued and, when it comes to physical love, your satisfaction comes more from providing a wonderful time to your partner than simply seeking your own.

This places you in the Lover Style of: The Romantic Lover.

The Romantic Lover is a wonderful Lover Style, and is the hallmark of young love--the Romantic Lover often loves the idea of being in love, and being a wonderful lover, and so they try to bring their prospective partners every bit of joy or happiness that they can. They are the serenaders, and the ones to rent carriages in the park or take a gondola ride down a canal. The Romantic Lover is a treasure to find, though they sometimes are prone to being hurt if their advances are ignored or harshly rebuffed.

In terms of physical love, the Romantic Lover can seem shy, but usually it is simply a by-product of wanting to be perfect for their lover, and often needs some extra encouragement and re-assurance to truly feel at ease. Given a special, intimate evening, and the right lover, the Romantic Lover can be a delight in bed.

Best Compatibility can probably be found with: The Classic Lover (most of all) or the Suave Lover, or the Exotic Lover.

Congratulations!

Happy New Year

Happy New Year everyone! I hope you all had a great time over the festive season, and I look forward to 2006 with great hope and optimism for us all. :)

I was with Mum in Derby over Christmas, for all up four days. New Years Eve I was in London with my fellow New Zealander and dear friend Patrick Cain. :) I got back home about an hour or so ago. I've had a great time in the last week or so, and I hope you have too. :)

Over the last month or so, and following the release of the game I've been working on for the last two and a half years, I've been making great efforts to re-establish contact with friends and family that I have lost touch with. I hope if you are one of those who has felt the lack of contact from me over the last couple of years, that you can firstly forgive me and secondly please be patient just a little longer as I write the personal emails you all deserve so greatly.

I've lost interest in sharing all that much detail of my life on my blog, but I'm not keen to return to bulk emails either. So it will take me just a little while to step through each one I have and will be writing. If you've not completely given up on me throughout my silence as I stuck my heart into my work for so long, then I thank you very much. If you could not, however, then I understand and wish you all the best in your life ahead.

Such a vast wealth of material for New Year resolutions this time around.

I've no excuse now -- nothing as big as "I can't update, we're trying to finish the game" at least. :)

I just wanted to say Hey I'm still alive -- still on the same planet as the rest of you. Well at least in body. :) The last couple of years have taken a lot out of ye olde Ash.

Chances are high I'll be doing some kind of big update to Frimlin.com soon. I think the best thing would be to combine all my blogs into one and stick it all up on frimlin.com's main page. Anyhow, am still mulling it over and I am sure you'll see my results... once I get around to enacting them. :P

I hope everyone is well. You will hear from me again before the end of the year... :)

Back from NYC

Heya all. :) I arrived back at London Heathrow at just after 9am yesterday morning after having a fantastic time in New York and neighbouring Jersey City. I enjoyed my time there so much, I extended the trip by two days!

That's right! I was supposed to be back on Monday morning, but after a bit of wrangling I was able to get my trip extended by two days. Why did I do that? You don't go to New York for your first time and then spend most of the time working and not seeing anything! But actually, that wasn't the main reason. Extending the trip by two days meant I could spend more time with my friend Michael, who lives just across the Hudson River from Manhattan, in Jersey City. He kindly allowed me to stay at his place, after I checked out of the luxurious Ritz Carlton Hotel in Battery Park City (south Manhattan), on Sunday.

Photos? Yes, there are some. In typical Frimlin style I didn't really take enough, including none of the WTC site, which I passed by multiple times since the subway station from NY to NJ was right next to Ground Zero. But I have some of the stand I was demoing The Movies at, a couple of the city (it was raining when I arrived, and continued to for quite a few days), and a handful of Michael and I, which I took while showing him my "new" digital camera. I will be putting them up on my photo blog at some point soon -- maybe even today! And I intend to stick a couple up from Leipzig, too -- though I took even less photos over there, and they were all of the stand I was demoing at, at the Games Convention. D'oh!

So anyhow, I had a fantastic time and I will say more once I've a) finished my first coffee in 24 hours, b) had a shower and got dressed and c) eaten the first food I've had in 30 hours. Yes really. You cannot count American Airline's box of "crackers and spread" as breakfast, even if they did try to hypnotise you. I am starving and have not eaten anything since I forced myself to eat two of their fruit bars, which were about the only edible thing I could find in that silly little "breakfast" box. ;) I have some bacon and eggs in the fridge (and that is absolutely all I have) -- so I think I'll be making myself an omelette before I make my way to the supermarket for much needed supplies. ;) I promise I will write more about this trip shortly. There is more to tell, and of course, photos! :)

Gold for The Movies, and Frimlin goes to NYC

Heya! :) Yeah I know, it's been ages... and yes, I am still alive. :) This is just a quick update, I'm afraid.

Three things. Firstly, last week The Movies went Gold. Yes, the project that has kept me both intensely busy and quiet for the last two and a half years has been completed, and is rushing its way to (and through) the CD factories as we speak. Am I relieved? Oh I am, I very am. ;)

Secondly, following success with demoing The Movies to fans at the Games Convention in Leipzig earlier this year, I am now whisking my way off to New York for a few days of quite the same thing, at "Ziff Davis DigitaLife" which is on at the Javits Convention Center. Well okay, I'm not going now but there is a taxi coming in seven hours to take me to the airport. That's 5:30am in the morning by the way. Ecck! :) If you're around in NYC, please drop by and say Hi -- you'll see me, I'll be taking my normal position as the odd one out. ;)

The third and final thing, not mentioned in the title is news about a new home for Frimlin! I moved house a couple of weeks back, after the let expired on our previous lovely apartment on Nightingale Road, here in Guildford. I now live up a rather steep road called The Mount, on the third floor of a rather tall building. :) And for the first time in a long while, I'm living alone. Oooh. :P I was without the Internet for two months, so hence the quietness -- not that I've ever proffered an excuse for it before, mind. ;) The place is okay, but not great -- apart from just one thing, that makes it rather awful. I can hear almost everything the people upstairs do, and conversely they apparently have similar ability to hear me. Which kinda causes much more stress than I'd rather have now I've finally finished all that time working on the game. I can't see much in the way of a resolution, other than to move at my soonest opportunity. Shame, mind. But then again, I think I prefer living with other people...

Please wish me luck in New York. Typically, I am a bit freaked about the flight. But I'm getting on it so most likely it won't be up to me after that. :P

frimlin.com is back from the ether

I am sure you didn't notice (I've not updated my websites or blogs for so long, I won't be surprised if nobody visits them anymore) but frimlin.com expired a week or so ago, and the website has been unavailable since. I was almost starting to like it that way, to be honest. But anyhow, it's back now. :) That also means I can send and receive emails again. Sorry if you've emailed me recently but I haven't received any for two weeks, and probably never will. So please re-send if you can. :)

So what's new from Frimlin? Well, for one thing I lost my mobile phone almost two weeks ago. It's completely gone, with no chance of return. So all the phone numbers are gone with it. I'm a bit shocked still -- but in all honesty, I had hardly used it for two years now. Many of my friendships I built up while living in Cambridge for four years have now lapsed to complete silence, from both ends. So losing the phone isn't the end of the world for me -- just a bit of a royal pain in the gluteus m.

At least it forces me to upgrade the phone, which had been an issue. But hey I wish I didn't have to lose the phone numbers of some people I care about in the process. And yes, despite what I said about silence from both ends, sometimes even if you don't talk to someone for years, you can still have them in your mind all the time, or care for them deeply irrespective of time spent away. Now there's no chance I'll ever talk to some of these people unless *they* choose to contact me. Maybe that's for the best. Maybe it's best to clear the mind and move on. I wish I'd chosen to do it though. But sometimes I need to be forced or else it never happens.

Also, work is even more busy than before. You don't believe me do you? That's because I must have told you I haven't had time to do something due to being busy at work. Or I haven't written to you because I get home late at night and after emailing colleagues all day I am sick of emails.

So you're saying, how could it be even busier than it was before? Well, that's how it is. We've got a release date later this year that we're dedicated to achieving. Also, we've expanded our Scene Design team to eight including me, which has meant an increased amount of work for me as manager. It wasn't always easy with only three or four people to manage. But seven can definitely be hard at times. Especially when there are so many other important things going down at work that need my attention. And that's just work stuff. Yes, even outside the office there's things that worry Ash's mind; including some things, and people, on the other side of the world.

I'm itching to redo frimlin.com now it looks so old and out of date. Maybe a fresh coat of paint will make me want to keep it updated more often. Maybe this will be the last post I make to this blog for yet more months of silence. Or maybe not.

Oh I hate to tease (and you know I really love it) but that link takes you to an interview I have *just* made about what I do as Lead of Scene Design on "The Movies." So now you can get at least one more glimpse (here's the other, my webcam at work) into why I've been so quiet of late -- what is it exactly which takes up so much of Frimlin's energy?

On a completely different tangent, the most observant and perhaps also most familiar of you dearest readers knows that in only days your fine fingered friend will be clocking up another year on the grand old calendar of life. Strangely, for about 9 months or so now, I've felt ancient parts of me change from being precisely 27 Earth orbits of the Sun over to being precisely 28 orbits instead. Yay me.

Well at least it's not thirty. Yet. Ho hum, there's so many other things to moan about than the inevitability of age. I just wonder at what point I would find it revealing to find myself objecting to the idea of eating those sagely yet mayhaps naive words. Yet even now I can't close this thought without alluding to my growing concern over the brevity for which we hold our mortal coil.
